Art workshop:

A Visual Documentation of Current Concerns

What are you interested in at the moment? Discuss what it is that makes you think twice? What are you questioning? Idea is to create a body of work documenting a problem you are trying to solve. Choose something you are happy to share with the group. What will you do with the images - make a book; a picture; a slide show; make a sculpture; destroy it, whatever feels right.

Session to run over two weeks (e.g. 1 and 3), so cameras can be developed. Using disposables as everyone might not have software for their mobile phone and I think it makes it more of an event than just snapping on a mobile. This can be discussed beforehand.

Drawing Workshop: Introduction to drawing and becoming familiar with conventions. Over two weeks can be developed to explore a theme or use a life model. First session to include mystery drawing, stick drawing, and drawing found objects.

Painting Workshop: Introduction to using acrylic paint and developing skills in composition and tone Silk screen printing/dry ink printing - Make flags/t shirts to decorate room or home Making a stencil - Taking inspiration from the recent higher profile of street art, developing ways of creating a stencil piece that can be used alone or incorporated into a larger work.

Sculpture Workshop - Introduction to ideas around sculpture, Creating pieces using different materials, exploring contexts for works.

Visit to contemporary galleries - Develop critical skills while experiencing the formal context and practise of artists. Using the resource of the "First Thursdays" initiative in Tower Hamlets/Hackney where independent galleries are open till 9pm, visit specific exhibitions (e.g. Vyner Street, E2/Whitechapel) /or similar depending on timetable and events available. Alternatives are Wednesday National Gallery, Thursday British Museum, Friday Victoria & Albert Museum, attend a private view.

Site specific work - Construct a temporary piece of work together that uses the context of the space. Can be decorative or political. e.g. Design and build a sculpture that reflects how group feels about a self-directed theme/decorate the building and surrounds.

Exhibition – The group to curate a show demonstrating selected pieces from your work produced over the sessions. Venue to be confirmed.
